ONBOARDING FRAMEWORK

KYC & Relationship Assessment

Intercorp’s onboarding process is not a compliance formality. It is the first expression of the methodology — a deliberate, structured effort to understand the full context of a potential relationship before any advisory commitment is made on either side.

The process ensures that when engagement begins, it does so from a position of complete mutual understanding. Scope, expectations, and the nature of the advisory relationship are established clearly before any work commences.

WHY THIS PROCESS EXISTS

Alignment Before
Engagement

Intercorp accepts a limited number of new client relationships each year. This is not a capacity constraint — it is a deliberate choice. The advisory model only functions when relationships are built on genuine mutual understanding and clear alignment of objectives, values, and expectations.

The onboarding process is therefore as much about Intercorp understanding the prospective client as it is about regulatory compliance. Both directions of assessment matter equally — and both proceed with the same discretion.

Completion of this process does not obligate either party to proceed. Engagement advances only where scope, suitability, and terms are clearly agreed on both sides.

New advisory relationships at Intercorp are established selectively and typically by referral. If you have been referred, or wish to make a confidential enquiry, the relationship assessment process begins with an introductory conversation — at no obligation to either party.

If you have not yet made contact, please visit the Contact page to arrange an introduction before reviewing this process in detail.

THE ASSESSMENT PROCESS

Four Stages.
One Foundation.

Each stage is proportionate to the complexity and jurisdictions involved — and is conducted with the same discretion that governs all aspects of the advisory relationship. Timeframes are not artificially compressed. The process moves at the pace that the situation and the relationship require.

01

Introductory Conversation

A confidential, exploratory discussion — typically by referral — to understand the prospective client’s background, objectives, and structural landscape. No obligation on either side. The purpose is mutual orientation, not commitment. Many relationships begin with a conversation that takes months to develop into a formal engagement.

02

Background and Source of Wealth Assessment

Documentation and information shared through agreed, controlled channels — proportionate to the complexity of the situation and the jurisdictions involved. This stage addresses identity verification, source of wealth, and the broader regulatory context of the prospective relationship. All documentation is handled with strict confidentiality and on a need-to-know basis.

03

Suitability and Scope Assessment

An evaluation of whether the prospective engagement is appropriate for both parties — taking into account the nature of the situation, the jurisdictions involved, the complexity of the advisory requirement, and the long-term compatibility of the relationship. This stage is bilateral: Intercorp assesses suitability from its side with the same rigour as the reverse.

04

Engagement Confirmation

Where appropriate, formal scope, terms, and advisory framework are agreed. The engagement begins — deliberately, with full mutual clarity, and without the urgency that tends to produce misalignment. Timeframes for this stage vary according to complexity and are not subject to external pressure from either side.

CONFIDENTIALITY FRAMEWORK

Discretion from
the First Exchange

All information shared during the onboarding process is treated with the same confidentiality as information shared within an established engagement. There is no distinction between the information standards applied to prospective relationships and those applied to active ones.

Information flows are maintained on a strict need-to-know basis throughout — including within Intercorp’s own professional network. No information shared during the onboarding process is disclosed to external parties without explicit instruction.

All introductory discussions treated as confidential from the outset — regardless of whether engagement proceeds

Information shared on a strict need-to-know basis within Intercorp's professional framework

No information disclosed to external parties without explicit instruction from the prospective client

Documentation and identity verification conducted through secure, agreed channels only

No obligation to proceed on either side at any stage of the assessment process

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS

Proportionate.
Not Excessive.

Documentation requirements are calibrated to the complexity and jurisdictions involved — not applied uniformly regardless of situation. The objective is to establish a clear and defensible understanding of identity, source of wealth, and structural context: enough to proceed with confidence, not more than the situation requires.

Specific documentation requirements are communicated individually following the introductory conversation — taking into account the prospective client’s jurisdictions, structural complexity, and the nature of the advisory relationship being considered.

Questions About
the Process

The following addresses questions most commonly raised during introductory discussions. Where a specific situation is not covered, it is best addressed directly during an introductory conversation.

To ensure alignment, preserve confidentiality, and meet multi-jurisdictional obligations responsibly before any advisory coordination begins.

Yes. Coordination through authorised advisers — legal counsel, family office representatives, or other professionals — is common practice and handled with equal discretion.

Each relationship is assessed individually. Where enhanced review is appropriate, it is conducted proportionately and with the same discretion that governs every other aspect of the onboarding process.

Access is restricted on a strict need-to-know basis within the advisory framework. Information is not distributed beyond agreed professional counterparties.

Material changes in residency, ownership, or jurisdictional exposure may require updates to ensure continued alignment and structural defensibility over time.

That is expected, and accommodated. The onboarding process is staged deliberately — initial conversations proceed before any documentation is required, and the scope of information requested expands only as the relationship moves toward formal engagement. There is no expectation of full disclosure at the outset.

Engagements are typically by referral and accepted selectively. This allows Intercorp to maintain the quality and depth of engagement each relationship requires.

Through controlled access, agreed channels, and strict need-to-know protocols. Information is not distributed beyond agreed professional counterparties at any stage.

No. The onboarding process itself does not trigger reporting or disclosure. It ensures compliance considerations are understood before advisory coordination begins.

Timeframes vary depending on jurisdictional complexity and structural scope. We aim to proceed efficiently while ensuring appropriate review at each stage.

Yes. Onboarding and coordination are frequently managed through authorised representatives to maintain discretion and structural efficiency throughout the process.

No. Completion of onboarding does not obligate either party to proceed. Engagement advances only after scope and terms are clearly agreed by both sides.
